Highland Capital Management began 2018 with a generous $10 million donation to the Bush Center. The donation is aimed at funding the Engage at the Bush Center program, a series that provides free educational events to the public. According to the Bush Center, the series “Thought-provoking lectures and discussions allow visitors to connect with the Bush Center in a new way and dive deeper into many of the issues and policy areas that matter most.”

As Dallasnews.com has recently reported, Boeing joined Highland Capital with a similar $10 million donation to help the Center’s Military Service Initiative. Their gift is part of a three-year effort to invest $30 million into helping U.S. veterans who have served since 9/11. These services include programs that provide rehabilitation, career development, aid helping veterans return to civilian life, and many other benefits. Boeing is a long-time supporter of U.S. veterans. They are known for donating to charities in their home region of Chicago, such as NPower and the American Airlines Sky Ball. Highland Capital’s donation is only one of their many contributions to the Center. They are one of its’ founding benefactors, and Highland’s CEO Jim Dondero is scheduled to join their executive advisory council. The first event Highland Capital will be sponsoring is on February 5. Entitled “Constitutional Conversations: Justice Scalia’s Memorable Speeches / James Madison & Today’s Media,” the event will feature several guest speakers, and those interested need only register on the Center’s website in order to attend. Christopher Scalia will be discussing his book, “Scalia Speaks: Reflections on Law, Faith, and Life Well Lived,” in addition to discussing his father, the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The event will also feature discussions about how one of the writers of the U.S. constitution, James Madison, would view the current state of media in the country.
