There is no doubt that Dick and Betsy DeVos have attracted a lot of attention from the public from their donations. But, you know what the attention is well deserved considering that they have contributed around $139 million in different donations.

 

Following Betsy’s education secretary nomination, the couple and their foundation are being scrutinized for their contributions. That is how the company came to know about the couple’s contribution.

 

In a report that was posted on their website, the company had donated approximately $11.6 million in 2015. This is double the amount that they used in their campaign in the last five years.

 

Most of their contributions are focused on improving the education system. In 2015, they donated $3 million to education reforms which accounted for about 26% of their total donations that year. Dick DeVos said that their donations reflect their priority in the education reforms.

 

Their philanthropic lifestyle has been hugely impacted by their families. The DeVos family has been reported to have contributed approximately $1.33 billion in their lifetime.

 

About Dick DeVos

 

Dick is a businessman and a philanthropist who has been involved in different projects in his lifetime.

 

He first came to the limelight after his work with the Amway. He began working in the company in 1974, and he was in charge of different operations in the company. They included; marketing, sales, finance, research, and development. In 1984, Dick was promoted to the position of the vice president. In this position, he was in charge of overseeing the operations of the company in the 18 countries.

 

In 1991, his family acquired the Orlando Magic which is a national basketball franchise. He worked in the company briefly before resigning. He later became the president of the Amway Company between 1993 and 2002. Under his management, the company doubled in sales to around $4.5 billion. Before he left the company, he oversaw a corporate restructuring which led to the creation of the Alticor. He retired from the company in 2002 after which he became the president of the Windquest group. This is a company that is involved in investment management.

 

He became the part owner of the Orlando Magic in 2005. This is after his father split the ownership of the company among all his children.

 

He has been involved in different philanthropy work. In 2010, he opened the West Michigan Aviation Academy which provides an aviation related education program. Since 2009 the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation supports the ArtPrize which is an art competition.

 

His foundation has also established scholarships which support students from developing countries who are doing MA, MS, and MBA at the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
