In an interview with Inspirery, David McDonald said that OSI Group makes revenue by processing and provision of food products around the world. He went on note that OSI’s profitability commenced during the firm’s early stages. He further went to say that the market strategy that enables OSI Group to generate new business is that OSI strives to become part of the local culture. He also said that OSI’s success has also been attributed to the creation of valuable partnerships. Born and raised on a farm in North East Iowa, David McDonald has been on the helm of one of the largest companies in food processing and distribution for than thirty years. He acquired a bachelor’s degree in animal science in 1987 from Iowa State University. He is also a proud recipient of the Wallace E. Barron Outstanding Senior Award. His success story in OSI began after finishing his university studies and being able to acquire a position at OSI Industries in Chicago.

Aside from his position as OSI’s current President and COO, he is also privileged to be the chairman of North American Meat Institute. Prior to the current positions he has, he was also an independent director at Malfrig Global Foods.

OSI Group began back when a German immigrant by the name Otto opened up a small butcher to serve his community. After a decade, the business grew into a wholesale venture. The game changer came about when his sons went into a handshake agreement with a gentleman by the name Kroc to be McDonald’s first supplier of fresh beef. Years went on with the partnership growing to the point OSI built up a plant purposively to serve McDonald’s solely. Since then OSI Group under the able leadership of David McDonald to be a pacesetter in food innovation and have its presence in seventeen countries and having a labor capacity of over 20000 employees.

OSI Group also acquired Baho Food in 2016. Baho food is a Dutch company with five subsidiaries which processes meat products for the retail industry and food service. Once asked about the acquisition, David McDonald said that the acquisition would enable OSI to broaden its presence in Europe. He then pointed out that Baho’s products complemented OSI’s strengths and capabilities. According to him, this acquisition would enable them best serve their ever-evolving customer needs.
