How Kisling, Nestico & Redick is Giving Back to the Community  0

Winter has always been a particular time for people who love swimming. Kisling Nestico & Redick, a prominent law firm in the US, has a team of professionals who are always looking forward to having a good time every winter. This institution has been holding events named Annual Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump. This February, the Kisling Nestico & Redick team had to become polar bears and join the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank. The organization did this so that they could raise funds and also invite people to come and support the team. The Polar Bear Jump is always the highlight of the year for the employees serving in the law firm. The managing partner of Kisling Nestico & Redick, Rob Nestico, doesn’t take the annual event for granted. The businessman and his team say that they always have a special feeling whenever they have to come together to have fun and at the end of the day help members of the community who are in need.

Several years ago, KNR launched a campaign named KNR Care About Kids. The campaign is one of a kind, and it seeks to help needy kids who are based in Ohio so that they can be able to reach their potential. The Polar Bear Jump was started so that the participants of the campaign could raise funds for their noble project. With the help of Akron Canton Regional Foodbank, the drive this year has managed to increase the targeted amount. According to Dan Flower, the president of the successful institution, thousands of children in the state are food insecure. Dan believes that giving out just one dollar is enough to offer at least four meals to the children in the neighborhood. Families who are not able to put food on the table have all the reasons to smile. The funds that have been collected during the Polar Bear Jump will be able to provide more than one hundred thousand meals to the community.

Kisling Nestico & Redick has played a vital role in the growth of the campaign over the years. The first event had only seventy people to jump into the lake. This year, however, the number has risen to over eight hundred.

Betsy DeVos The Secretary of Education  0

Betsy DeVos comes from a high-profile family dynasty that has been a player in Republican politics for decades. Ms. DeVos reported $11.6 million in charitable political donations in 2015 alone as part of her vetting process for the post of education secretary. According to Forbes, Ms. DeVos family’s fortune is estimated to be $1.3 billion. Betsy DeVos and her husband have prioritized education when it comes to philanthropy. They contributed $3 million to education in 2015.

Betsy DeVos has had a rocky start to life in Washington. It all started in her Senate confirmation hearing. Ms. Devos shaky answering questions on federal law and policy was a cause of concern. Her first major challenge was when President Trump rescinded a federal law which allowed for transgender children to access bathrooms that were in line with their gender identities. Betsy DeVos quickly met with a rep of the gay and transgender employees to warn of the impending situation.

An aide gave assurance to the employee that Ms. Devos was completely against the move even when there was no clear public indication she’d disagreed with White House.

Those who have worked Ms. DeVos from back in the years of being an advocate for charter schools know she is far from a meek player. She appears calm and collected even in face of overwhelming challenges. In her hometown, she is known to be a fighter and is not afraid to use her fortune to advance her political ideology and agendas.

When she arrived in Washington, Ms. DeVos had no inside government experience and no any known history with President Donald Trump. Some of her critics have pointed out that she has little connections with public schools having attended only private schools throughout her education.

Ms. DeVos has for over 30 years championed for tax dollars to be channeled to charter schools as opposed to public schools. It even runs further as she has publicly supported charter schools run by for-profit business entities.

Mostly because of her efforts, Detroit currently has the largest concentration of charter schools in the United States. Majority of them are low-performing and the supply is more than the demand. This is a glaring contrast as Detroit has some of the worst public schools in the nation and the situation continues to deteriorate each passing day. During her confirmation hearing, Ms. DeVos was keen to note that most Americans go to public schools.

The Educational Platform of Betsy Devos  0

Betsy Devos began her 30-plus years of business and political success as a student at Calvin College. In the early 1980s, she married billionaire Dick Devos with who she co-founded the WindQuest Group in 1989. The Windquest Group was and is a company that invests heavily in the technology, manufacturing, and clean energy industries. The couple has been incredibly successful leaders of the company, leading it to be one of the leading companies in the world.Devos also an active philanthropist, doing most of this extensive work with her husband through the Dick and Betsy Devos Family Foundation. But most of her philanthropic work has been political with specifically education in mind.

This aspect of her life has been huge since the 70s and has culminated in her recent appointment as the U.S. Secretary of Education. In a recent interview with Philanthropy Roundtable she fleshed out some of her educational ideals and passions. 30 years of work on the subject have not dimmed her passions and ideals; she remains as committed to developing her educational projects as ever. She is convinced that she has enabled vast progress and is equally convinced that much progress will still be made. She is most optimistic about the future her greatest educational passion, School Choice, especially now that she is serving as Secretary of Education directly under Trump, the top guy himself. But that is only one of her many, many concerns in the role.

Of the many other things she will have to do, probably the biggest and most important will be directly overseeing the $1.3 trillion debt program. Even now she is planning and instigating her strategy, a big part of which will involve giving year-round Pell Grants to low-income students. This phase of the plan began deployment on July 1.This system makes everything a lot simpler. In the former system, there were a variety of plans. So many that it often became confusing. Yes, this will make it less complicated which will be a very good thing. But the biggest benefit is that it will save a whole lot of money. Estimates say that the five-year saving could be around $130 million.
